The 2011 South Island Kendo Championships were hosted by the Invercargill Kendo Club and were attended by teams from five dojos from around the South Island.
The Otago Kendo Club members who entered did well and all came home with medals. The results for the OKC are as follows:
Mixed Kyu Competion: Tasha Derrett – 3rd equal
Open Women’s Competiton: Sandra Wheeler – 3rd place
Open Team Competition: Yoshi Tanaka, Richard Keen, Ric McWhannell – 3rd place
Basic Kata: Ric McWhannell – 1st place
Following the competition Ric McWhannell and Tasha Derrett also went on to pass their gradings. Ric graded to ikkyu, Tasha graded to 6th kyu.
